INTRODUCTION
Chiron has never been a band that will let itself be bound by genre.
Founded in 1997 by vocalist Michael Aliani (aka Carrodus), after he left popular cult dark wave band Ikon, the original lineup included legendary Ikon bass player Dino Molinaro and members of Russian Rock band B2, Shura Bi-2 and Lyova Bi-2.
Originally a dark wave band, Chiron entered the new millennium with fresh concepts and a desire to take its music deeper than ever before, soon incorporating sounds born of trip hop, electro, and dark trance.
To this day Chiron continues to evolve, never setting itself creative boundaries. In its new 2026 release, the newformed lineup as a trio will pay homage to the project’s dark wave roots, whilst touching on tones of modern metal and gothic-rock inspired aesthetics.
One consistency has remained throughout Chiron’s long history. The deep spine-tingling vocals of Michael Aliani.
MEMBERS
MICHAEL ALIANI

Michael Aliani (Carrodus) an Australian musician, songwriter, vocalist and producer. He is highly regarded for his work as a founding member of the influential darkwave band Ikon, and for his work as Chiron, two acts that have played defining roles in shaping Australia’s gothic and post-punk underground.
Emerging from a fertile alternative scene in the 1990s, Carrodus joined Ikon for its first album releases during a period when music culture was steeped in post-punk, darkwave and gothic influences. Drawing inspiration from the stark emotional landscapes of early European darkwave, Ikon quickly established a distinct sonic identity. Carrodus’s songwriting became central to the band’s sound — combining shimmering, chorus-laden textures with driving basslines and atmospheric arrangements.
Across multiple albums and international tours, Ikon developed a devoted global following. The band’s music was praised for introspective lyricism, positioning them among the most respected acts in the southern hemisphere’s gothic movement.
Upon departing Ikon, post 1997 Michael established Chiron, a Melbourne-based darkwave project known for its lush arrangements and emotive songwriting. With Chiron, his musical sensibilities broadened further — exploring layered guitars, electronic textures and a more expansive, atmospheric approach. The project allowed him to experiment with dynamics and mood while remaining rooted in the melancholic romanticism that characterises his body of work. The project has seen many collaborators over the years, including the electronic dance programming of DJ Robert Anthony, a veteran and award winning Melbourne-based producer and turntablist.
Throughout his career, Michael has been associated with the enduring vitality of Melbourne’s gothic and alternative music community. His work reflects a commitment to authenticity, atmosphere and emotional depth rather than fleeting trends. As both collaborator and craftsman, he has contributed to recordings that continue to resonate within underground scenes internationally.
DINO MOLINARO

Dino Molinaro is an Australian musician and bass guitarist, known for being a founding and long-term member of Ikon, and also a key member of Chiron. Over more than three decades, he has been one of the most recognisable performers in Australia’s gothic and post-punk scene. He has toured extensively overseas and performed on some twenty or more albums including Chiron’s Eve, Slipping Away, Bleed and The Sun Goes Down.
IVAN BULLOCK

Ivan Bullock’s recordings go back to the early 2000’s, where he resided in Tokyo and self-published piano works and gothic dance music under the moniker Mystral Tide. The project performed in Europe, Asia and Australia before permanently moving back to Australia in 2003. In Melbourne he soon established Enzyme, a decade-long series of underground music concerts, whilst also operating a label, online music community, distribution and music review site. His most recent music incarnation Minorarc has been active since 2010, and blends cinematic orchestration and piano work with progressive and modern metal techniques. Although a trained violinist and keyboardist, his instrument of choice is extended-range electric guitars combined with loopers and digital modelling techniques.
Ivan has been a close friend of the band for many years through his arts community work, and he is a great supporter of all aspects of the arts and is a perfect inclusion for Chiron for many years to come.
WORKING ON A NEW ALBUM
2023-2026 has seen creativity in the studio commence once again for Chiron, with new recordings having their finishing touches made, and rehearsals for future live appearances underway.
CONCERTS
Live, Chiron has played at some of Australia’s premiere music events. From large festivals to small intimate gatherings, Chiron continues to explore. As a live act Chiron are interested in one thing, enticing an audience to lose themselves in the music.
In November 2016 Sao Paulo, Brazil, the lives of the 200 guests at Madame’s, a legendary hard-core Goth HQ, changed forever when Chiron performed an excoriating live set. The inclusion of early Ikon material in Chiron’s set only added to the electricity of the night.
